Mushrooms: Forest & Field Trip (Identification)

We packed up the wild ones and set out for field and forest in search of mushrooms and mycelium.

At the first sight of sunshine, we headed off. It had been a long week of rain and although good for mushroom growth, a little trickier for exploration. The mushrooms did not disappoint-they were at every turn, under log and leaf and started around our own home.

Our citizen scientists set out to do several things: first locate mushrooms where there is decay. Second, record the mushroom, either through photographs or drawings and lastly to identify mushrooms through their ID charts they made earlier in the week.

Mr. M was creating mycelium underneath his mushroom art;)

Lastly, once the mushrooms were located, we set science aside and had a fire. My kids never head to the forest without paper and matches!

...and an ax for the baby!
