Darwin: Galapagos Islands

Since Darwin is well-known for his studies at Galapagos Islands, Ecuador, we decided to make a map of the islands and learn about the biology.

The big kids took to map-making and a couple of art lessons of animals. We learned about the famed George, the Galapagos tortoise that was supposedly the last of his kind. Attempts were made in vain, for George to find a mate to procreate, but old George had no interest and died in 2012 without known offspring.

We also learned about the shells of tortoises on different islands and how they demonstrated Darwins theory of natural selection and adaptation; different shaped shells showing which type of food was available.
