Inuit Life: Cold Weather Shelter STEM
Learning about life in the Arctic, we included a little STEM challenge by creating our own igloos; the winter-weather shelter for Inuit up North.
The National Film Board of Canada has an old film about building an igloo. The kids took note and headed outdoors to test snow and slice blocks!

We also took our building tools from around our house to challenge ourselves to create geometric figures that resemble the shape of a dome.
You can increase the value of your STEM activities with the following books. There are several inventions created by Inuit communities in order to serve their lifestyle, including snow shoes and snow goggles, but also bow drills for creating heat and drilling holes.
