Rainbow Week: Artist Study & Scratch Paper
We borrowed a beautiful book from the library by the name of Beastly Verse. It contained a variety of famous animal poetry alongside the artwork of the talented Joohee Yoon. We each chose an animal to work with for the week and noted how Yoon's work looked like it had been a)print-making or b) scratch paper work.
Then we proceeded to complete three pieces of art, using one animal image of our choosing.
First: Using scratch paper, scratch either the negative space, or your animal image
Second: Create your own scratch paper by covering a small square of paper with a rainbow of crayon wax, then covering that completely in black crayon (this works even better with oil pastels, but crayon was where my patience was ending on this particular morning)
Three: Fold a rectangle of white paper. Cover the inside with a rainbow of crayon. Draw your animal image on the outside. This will transfer the wax to the blank side.
