Shifting Gears: Planet Automation

Our first and previous Automation was surrounding our Owl Studies.

We found a similar style of automation using the friction of plasticine/modeling clay, instead of gears. However, when we were in construction mode, the plasticine was proving to be too heavy for smooth rotation. We switched gears, so to speak, and attempted cardboard disc and wire spokes, with lovely results.

We paired this project with a poetry book by Douglas Florian 'Comets, stars, the moon and Mars' and fit in some copy work with calligraphy and handwriting.
