Earth Study: Air Pressure

There's something very attractive about simple science. The kids seem to be very hands-on when they can see results in seconds, I love a set-up that doesn't require collecting special tools or an hour of prep for a short activity (in fact, that is my go-to gauge for projects; if they take longer for me to set-up then the kids to complete, there are a no-go in my books.)

This experiment was set-up for the tiniest scientist in our class, as we have done this one before. But two of the older kids couldn't help themselves but to participate.

Set out a plate of water, blob of playdough, birthday candle and mason jar (use various sizes for extra experimentation.)

Place the playdough in the center of the plate, to hold up the candle. Light the candle and place the jar on top. Magic will happen before your very eyes!
