Nine
When I have had my evening bath,
And run upstairs and give a laugh,
And Mother switches off the light,
I'll still be eight years old tonight.
But, from the very break of day,
Before the children rise and play,
Before the greenness turns to gold,
Tomorrow, I'll be Nine years old.
Nine kisses when I wake.
Nine candles on my cake!
~Waldorf Birthday Poem
To my firstborn son
Who teaches me every day what it looks like to forge your own way
Who reminds me that perspective is in the eyes of the beholder
Who has grown from my largest baby at birth to my biggest personality in the house
Who relishes his big brother role, even on the hard days
Who needs more hugs than I could ever provide
I still have so much to learn from you
Keep teaching
