Ocean: Salt Water Density
Taking a look at the difference in density between salt and fresh water, we filled two jars with tap water. In one, we dissolved many tablespoons of salt and the other, left as rainwater (our source is a cistern.)
Then we predicted what would happen to each jar of water when we tipped in two fresh eggs. The salt water easily held the egg afloat while the it sank in the freshwater.
To further the science, we talked about salinity of the oceans (generally 34-36ppm) and that of the Dead Sea and why only specific microorganisms can survive there.
