Portugal: Art-chitecture
When taking a deep dive into countries, we usually have an Art-citecture day, in which we sketch monuments or buildings of significance in detail (churches, statues, temples...)
This is where I argue that math and art are inextricably intertwined, as there is as much math in this project as there is drawing practice.
If you can draw from life, even better. I vividly remember taking my sketchbook with me backpacking and setting up shop in village squares where there were often statues or fountains as inspiration. The crowds would gather and conversations would ensue. Good times.
Send the student to a chosen locale. Set up a picnic and some sketching tools and return for them in a few hours! Otherwise, a photo will do the job, without the adventure and strangers-turned-friends.
