Snow & Ice: Stitched Snowflake Symmetry

All the ages can particpate in this Art/Math stitching project: symmetrical snowflakes. For the littlest bunch, you can look at snowflakes and sketch half, so they can complete the other half, using a compact mirror for self-correction. Then we transferred a simple, stright-lined snowflake onto burlap for stitching.

We challenged the bigger kids to fill every square of a 100 square graph grid, before stitching it straight to cloth. Afterwards, they paper peeled out of the stitching to reveal a symmetrical embroidery.
