Bushcraft: Grid Mapping

Learning how to locate places in an atlas with grid mapping.

First, create a grid of any size (keeping your learners skillset in mind.) We started with a simple 3x5 square grid. In the vertical column, write numbers and the horizontal column, letters. Then have a caller choose coordinates (B2, A4 etc.) like a Bingo game, in order for the players to find the square and place a sticker.

Follow up with an actual Atlas. Call out city names. Find them in the Index along with their page and coordinates. Then learn to locate them on the grids provided.
